Mohammed ElFiki, MFT

Marriage & Family Therapy

Mohammed ElFiki is a psychotherapist who has dedicated his life to making a positive impact on the society and people around him. He has a master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from Syracuse University and holds a bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies from Al-Azhar University. As a spiritual leader, he has been guiding and counseling many people in Central New York area, which is one of the most diverse communities in the USA. Additionally, he worked as a lecturer in different countries across the globe. Throughout his journey, Mr. ElFiki utilized his religious scholarship, different therapeutic approaches, and life experiences in facilitating mental, psychological, and spiritual healing of people around him.

Mr. ElFiki has counseled hundreds of individuals, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds, and helped them improve their quality of life. He takes a collaborative approach for psychotherapy and believes that exploring one’s life stressors within a non-judgmental and compassionate space can help individuals tap into their internal resiliency. He utilizes different types of therapy, including, Cognitive Behavioral, Motivational Interview, Narrative, Solution Focused Brief, Structural Family, Trauma Focused, Bowen Family Systems, and Attachment Based. However, in his therapeutic approach, Mr. ElFiki always thinks ‘systems’, even when he is attending to an individual, in which the bio-psycho-socio-spiritual holistic view seems only a component of a coherent, meaningful whole

As he believes, people’s challenges can be due in part to institutional and systematic factors; hence, in congruence with his holistic approach, he is actively engaged in the community of CNY on several projects and initiatives to promote the welfare of the society. He shares his wisdom and values through public speaking, lectures, and writing for the local newspaper. In recognition to his advocacy and commitment to improve the quality of life of the people in need, Mr. ElFiki was recognized by the InterFaith Works of CNY and was awarded with the Leadership Award, 2021.
