Fitra is an Arabic term that speaks to the innate, natural state of human beings—the original purity and balance we are each born with. At Fitra Therapy, we believe that mental well‑being is about returning to that natural state, especially when life’s challenges, transitions, or cultural tensions pull us away from it.
We are a group therapy practice built by, and for, the Muslim community, immigrants, and children of immigrants in Central New York. Our mission is to create a safe, understanding space where your cultural and faith identity isn’t just acknowledged, but instead is honored as a core part of your counseling.
Fitra Therapy was founded by clinicians who were hearing a need in our community: “I want a therapist who gets it.” We saw a growing number of people in Central New York looking for mental health support that:
We realized that traditional therapy often misses the nuanced experiences, expectations, and internal guiding principles that shape the lives of Muslims, as well as immigrants more broadly, and their families. So we came together to build a practice where those nuances are woven into the care we offer.
A focus on helping you feel more at ease with yourself and more connected to others.
Practical tools grounded in evidence‑based therapy, while taking your world into consideration..
Faith‑informed perspectives, where Islamic values and concepts can be part of the conversation, if you choose.
